God Save the Dice Queen: How Patricia Demauro Became the Luckiest Grandma in the World

On the surface, Patricia Demauro is your average Jersey granny. Her voluptuous hair and sweet smile makes us think of yummy homemade spaghetti meatball dinners and heartfelt and cozy hugs. But, do not let appearances fool you, there is an amazing story hidden behind those dark-rimmed sparkly eyes.

In 2009, Patricia Demauro accomplished something that is more difficult that winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning and, in doing so, she broke a standing record of 20 years. At a craps table of the Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa, Demauro managed to roll the dice 154 times without ever “sevening” out. Her impressive lucky streak lasted for 4 hours and 18 minutes and in our opinion, it is going to be a while before anyone manages to come close to her impressive feat. Why? Because what Demauro did has a 1 in 1.56 trillion chance of happening.

The start of this amazing story is actually quite unimpressive. Demauro and a friend, John Capra, had decided to go to Atlantic City for some light entertainment and some gambling. She started the night slow, playing some slots before arriving at the craps table that would place her in the history books of gambling. Call it beginner’s luck, the 154 fantastic roll seems harder to believe when you consider that fact that Demauro had only played craps once before and she did not had a clear grasp of the rules.

As the dice kept rolling every possible combination but sevens, Capra served as her coach through the night. As an amateur, Demauro described the game as very fast paced and stated that, while playing it, she possessed very little understanding of the magnitude of her actions.

By the time goddess Fortuna decided to abandon her, it was just passed the stroke of midnight. After four hours of play, she had unintentionally brought out a multitude of people that were watching her, calling out her name and celebrating every turn of the dice. Although neither Patricia nor the casino ever revealed how much money she made, the guesstimates are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In the best fairy tale fashion, when asked what she was going to do with the money, she instantly answered that she was going to take her daughter and grandchildren to Disneyland! With such adorable intentions of putting her loved ones first, we guess she is also a normal nana after all!
